Kawartha Golf & Country Club

Kawartha Golf and Country Club is a family friendly semi-private club in Peterborough, ON, that provides a truly outstanding golf experience.  The centerpiece is a challenging and well-conditioned Stanley Thompson course, named the “14th Best You Can Play in Canada” in 2016 by Canadian Golf Magazine. Kawartha is in the early stages of a multi-year “revitalization” plan, which is a key focus of the position.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager oversees all club operations. He/she is responsible for fiscal management and ensuring that operating priorities are aligned with the club’s business plan in order to achieve optimum member and guest satisfaction.

The General Manager works closely with the Board of Directors on governance issues, policy formulation and administration and strategic planning and provides leadership and guidance to the Golf Course Superintendent, Food & Beverage Manager and Head Golf Professional.  


Revitalization Plan
  • The Revitalization Plan includes the construction of two new golf holes and redesign of others, construction of a new clubhouse/pro shop/cart storage facility and a maintenance building and expansion of the practice facility.  The General Manager will serve as Project Manager, working with the Revitalization Team to manage the construction and financing of the project.
 Project Management & Strategic Planning
  • Champion the strategic planning process and work with the Board to provide planning, leadership and project management expertise;  
  • Perform competitive analysis of other clubs, identify trends and challenges within the golf industry and respond appropriately to changing market conditions in order to stay competitive.
  • Manage  financial affairs in accordance with club by-laws and policies;
  • Develop and monitor the annual operating and capital  budgets, analyze financial statements, manage cash flow and take appropriate action as required;
  • Ensure effective controls are in place to secure and protect all club assets.
 Administration & Operations
  • Implement Board policies and procedures and direct their administration;     
  • Ensure the club is well managed to avoid placing the club in a position of liability;
  • Ensure human resource and safety policies and procedures are in place and followed.
 Member Relations and Marketing
  • Establish a culture of quality and service that maximizes member and guest satisfaction;
  • Gather member feedback, follow-up on concerns quickly and effectively and keep members apprised of events and activities;
  • Actively coordinate marketing programs to attract and retain members.
 Food and Beverage, Clubhouse, Golf Course and Pro Shop Services
  • In collaboration with appropriate Directors, Committees and Management Team, ensure members and guests receive the highest standard of service in all areas.
Key 2017 Club Metrics:
Operating budget of $2.1 million; 70 full & part-time seasonal staff; 560 playing members; 22,000 rounds played.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Degree or diploma in Hospitality Management, Golf Course Management  or equivalent required;
  • Certified Club Manager designation  an asset;  minimum of 3-5 years management experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, budget development, fiscal management, strategic planning and human resource management;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Public relations and marketing experience an asset;
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills with boards, staff and members;
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to use electronic communications effectively;
  • Membership with the Canadian Society of Club Managers or other relevant professional organization.
